Trust me when I say make this and use it everyday to know the actual meaning of squeaky clean teeth that last that way for almost the whole day!
Because this is homemade and it’s a natural tooth powder. What is does not have is fluoride, artificial sweeteners and artificial flavors, SLS, parabens and so many other ingredients I cannot even pronounce, let alone know what they are or are supposed to do. Herbal alternatives do exist, but someday, when you have time, look up the ingredients list of a herbal tooth paste.
So just to keep these commercial toxins out of my mouth and home as much as possible, I made my own alternative. What it does is, help raise the PH levels in my mouth and inhibit bacterial growth and make them less sensitive to sweet or cold food!
In the long run, this means less oral malfunctions, less toxins into my system and less waste generated because now we won’t buy as much plastic!
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 a cup of Bentonite Clay
5 tablespoons of Calcium Powder – I crush Calcium tablets
5 tablespoons of dried Mint Leaves
3 tablespoons of Dried Sage
2 tablespoons of Rock Salt
2 tablespoons of Cinnamon
2 tablespoons of Cloves
1 teaspoon of Turmeric Powder
Optional – 1/4 teaspoon of Activated Charcoal
CAUTION – Bentonite clay loses its beneficial properties when it comes into contact with metal, so it is best to use plastic or glass when mixing and storing your tooth powder.
1. Except for the Bentonite Clay, pulse all the other ingredients in a blender.
2. Mix them with the Clay using a wooden spoon in a glass or plastic container. Do not let any metal touch this powder. EVER.
3. Divide the powder into as many glass or re-usable plastic jars as there are family members in the house who would use the tooth powder.
4. Take a little tooth powder into the palm of your hand, dip your wet toothbrush into it and brush as usual – cleaning your tongue and the roof of your mouth as well! Just don’t dip your brush into the jar directly!
Make small batches – perhaps once every month. This sits absolutely fine on the bathroom counter and requires no refrigeration.
I am really proud of this DIY and I know, in the long run, it will benefit my children the most as they have been using it from the start.
But it really is a challenge to get the husband hooked onto it!
