Home Scents

Alright people! Diwali is almost here. Lights, sweets, crackers, candles… Oooooooo.

Please avoid crackers. Make sweets at home.

And those candles… The aromas they have these days.. I looooove candles.

I really really want to make some on my own. But you know what, most scented candles are made of petroleum-based paraffin with dubious artificial scents / aroma oils.

A safer alternative exists – Boil spices and citrus peels on the stove! It’s very simple:

– Fill a saucepan with water and bring the water to a boil.

– Add the citrus peels and spices and boil for a few minutes on a medium heat.

– Then turn the heat down to a simmer.

– When the water level is very low, add more of it. Do this three times.

That’s it!

It could get tiring and you may think its a waste of gas, but it’s worth it.. in the spirit of the festive season!

SOME COMBINATIONS:

Orange & Lemon Peels with Cloves

Orange Peels & Cinnamon

Apple Peels & Bay Leaves

Lemon Peels & Vanilla Essence

Dried Rose Petals & Star Anise

Well, there is a lot you can play around with. And I would love to hear about more easy combinations!

And hey, try to look up soya candles this festive season.
