Homemade Chocolate Sauce

Singh bought a bottle of Hershey’s last year. We used it so greedily. And then, just when half the bottle was still full, I used it all up in something that failed so utterly miserably. Anyways. The bottle is now empty and am going to make chocolate sauce – it will be cheaper than the store-bought syrups, richer and tastier, and will NOT contain any cornsyrup.

And it is really simple.

– 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
– 2 cups granulated sugar
– 1/4 tsp salt
– 1 cup cold water
– 1 tbsp vanilla
– 1 tbsp dark rum

Combine the cocoa and sugar in a saucepan and whisk until all lumps of cocoa are gone.

Add salt and water and mix well.

Cook over a medium flame, bringing to a boil.

Remove from heat.

When it cools, add vanilla and rum – add it when cool otherwise the flavors will boil away.
